Art-Reach is working with filmmaker Glenn Holsten to document the journey of St. Katherine’s Day School students as they participate in a 10 week dance workshop with the Pennsylvania Ballet. Their performance will premiere at our 2017 Cultural Access Awards on May 6th at FringeArts. Glenn shared his thoughts on day one of filming
Art Reach
St. Katherine’s/PA Ballet film
Day one: January 25 2017
Today we met the awesome students from St. Katherine’s — Muffy, Thomas, Jason, Tamika, Christina and Dion. We had the best time filming as the students braved the streets of Philadelphia with St. K’s uber-principal Kathleen Gould. We marched from the PA Ballet headquarters on North Broad Street to City Hall, where everyone took a ride up in the tiny elevator in the tower to the observation deck, way high above the city streets. We captured their reactions to this bird’s eye view of the city. Philadelphia sure looked lovely today.
I can’t wait to get into the rehearsal studio to start documenting these beautiful minds, beautiful hearts, and beautiful bodies making beautiful movements with the dancers from the Pennsylvania Ballet. The crew and I were completely charmed by the students, and I am especially excited to document the relationships that develop when they meet and work with their PA Ballet dancing partners. The story will reveal itself, for sure. It was a thrilling start!
